The power of participatory science
How do you co-create the first ultra-coastal heat map of the Mediterranean to reveal the impact of climate change on the sea? By involving everyone.
Welcome to citizen science!
It is not just about collecting data, but true collaborations, in which public involvement pushes science beyond the limits that professional researchers could reach on their own. Science becomes broader, more effective and more engaging for all.
Participants did not just help: they gained new perspectives and became advocates for change. The combination of different skills also stimulated new ideas and solutions.

A partnership that makes a difference
Divers, freedivers, fishermen, swimmers, students, local businesses, and residents of St. Peter’s Island all made contributions. From data collection to project dissemination, everyone played a role. Together, we demonstrated the power of participatory science.
This initiative was made possible thanks to Sardegna Ricerche, the Municipality of Carloforte, the Coast Guard and the schools of Carloforte.

Sea-related activities
- Carloforte Tonnare, which provided exceptional logistical support for the project.
- Blue Divers, whose expertise was essential in placing the devices.
- Teawa and MondApnea, who with great skill released the devices to the four corners of the island in one breath.
